FOUNDATIONS I - Certificate in Ministry
(CIM)
Rev. Willie Glaster, Pastor, Bright Morning Star Ministries. The Certificate in Ministry is a program for those seeking BASIC LEVEL theological education, but who are not planning to pursue study in a degree program. Six courses are required to complete the program at a rate of $500 for the required coursework. (Full payment is required by the 2nd week of class).
Anyone who seeks to enrich his/her personal theological understanding will be well-served. In particular, this CIM may meet requirements for leadership in other Christian traditions.

Course Descriptions
CIM.01F1: Surviving Your Faith
This course explores the foundations of Christian ministry as divine calling. Students reflect on five biblical examples to effective spiritual growth and the gifts of the Spirit in the church. One's own vocational clarification is a primary goal for course participants.
CIM.02F1: Vineyard Training
In this course, students examine the illustration parable of the Vine and its Branches found in John 15: 1 – 16.
CIM.03F1:The Burning Bush Experience
This course considers what theological ideas are central to a love relationship with God, and how they help us interpret the Bible as a whole.
CIM.04F1: Single-Minded Kingdom Building
This course provides a theological and practical vision of the challenge brought by Paul in Philippians 2: 5 - 11.
CIM.05F1: The Master’s Go Plan
This course explores basic elements of effective evangelism approaches.
CIM.06F1: How to Study Your Bible
This course teaches how to study the Bible. The student will approach the Bible with several different methods of study (prerequisite, rules, ways, application, helpful study aids).

The Certificate in Ministry is a program for church leaders and others seeking substantive theological education, but who are not planning to pursue study in a formal degree setting. Seven courses are required to complete the certificate program, developed in partnership with the Multitude Experience, Houston, TX at a rate of $700 for the required coursework and electives. (Full payment is required by the 2nd week of class).

Certificate In Ministry Course Descriptions
This course surveys the development of Christianity from the earliest communities established by the apostles through the Reformation era. Attention is given to critical turning points for Christianity in relation to the state, development of doctrine, institutional changes, spiritual ideals, and practices of worship.

CIM.02RF2 Reading the Bible Theologically:
Old & New Testament
In this course, students explore the relationship between thinking theologically and reading the Bible well. We consider what theological ideas are central to the biblical witness, and how they help us interpret the Bible as a whole. We also examine when and how our reading of Scripture challenges us to think differently about who God is, and who God is calling us to be in this world.

CIM.03F2 Worship and Preaching
The Christian church is a community at worship. In this course, students explore the historical roots, theology and practice of Christian Worship. Students learn the basic components of the Lord's Day service, including sacraments, and design services for weekly worship, weddings, and funerals. Included is a basic introduction to preaching within the context of worship. This is a blended course, with online components and face-to-face interactions that include performative practice. Students are required to attend one weekend workshop at a local church.

This course provides a theological and practical vision for the Church's ministry of education. Students explore theories of teaching and learning, alternate approaches for teaching, and strategies for organizing the ministry of education in congregations. The course is appropriate for pastors, Christian education directors, and teachers who wish to improve their craft. This is a blended course, with online components and face-to-face interactions. Students are required to attend one weekend workshop on the campus.

This course is designed to introduce students to the practice of pastoral care. It explores pastoral care as it has evolved from and been implemented within the context of the Christian faith community. Attention is given to learning and developing caring skills and understanding our role as caregivers in the life of the church. Attention also is given to the ways pastoral care both shapes and is shaped by pastoral leadership in the various aspects of ministry in the church.

CIM.06RF2 Ministry Foundations in Bible and Theology
This course explores the foundations of Christian ministry as divine calling. This course introduces students to topics, themes, and problems discussed in Christian ethics. These may include moral virtue and character, the Bible and Christian ethics, moral relativism, sexuality and marriage, and economic justice.

CIM.08EF2 Effective Church Leadership
This course explores elements of effective church leadership and administration. Clergy and congregational leaders are called to function in many different roles. Leadership is an essential ingredient in churches where there is faithful and fruitful ministry. Participants explore the nature of leadership in the church context, including biblical and theological models, goal setting, team building, delegating, human relationships, budgeting, working with teams, personnel management, and church operations.

CIM.09EF2 Evangelism
This course focuses on the biblical perspective of mission including the understanding of holistic evangelism strategies for all ages: children, youth, and adult. In addition, students will gain insights on how the local church should be involved in local, regional and international missions.
